FG urged to intensify war on corruption
The Ibadan Anglican Diocese has charged the federal government to intensify its war against corruption, protect Christians from attacks and promote massive investment in education.
The diocese gave the charge in a communiqué after its 2017 Synod in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The communiqué signed by the Diocesan Bishop and President of Synod, The Most Revd J.O Akinfenwa, also urged the government to continue to give priority to road construction and review multiple taxation.
The synod commended the government on its drive to curtail the corruption menace which it said had eaten into national life. It, however, pleaded for transparency and equity in the fight.
The communiqué also expressed alarm over the revelation of how some Nigerians who had served in privileged positions stashed cash in both local and foreign currencies in their homes and obscure places to beat the law.
It therefore suggested that an enabling law be enacted for the disbursement of the recovered funds to cater for welfare of needy Nigerians.
While commending the government in its fight against Boko Haram, it condemned the menace of herders. According to the synod, the government should create an enabling environment for quick economic recovery to bring succour to Nigerians.
It appealed to the government to urgently create a bypass for travellers on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to minimize the bottlenecks owing to the ongoing reconstruction and also ensure speedy construction of other roads until the West is linked with the North.
