Hisbah arrests two for raping girl, 12, in Sokoto

The Sokoto Hisbah Commission has arrested two men, Umaru Magaji and Abdullahi Muhammad for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl at Dingyadi town in Bodinga Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects, the Commander of the Commission, Dr Adamu Kasarawa, said two other suspects were still at large.

According to Kasarawa, Magaji took the victim, to an uncomplete­d building on Wednesday, May 10 where he and three of his friends raped and infected her with HIV.

The victim told Daily Trust on Sunday that her parents are divorced and the father was always away on business trips and the stepmother was not taking very good care of her.

According to her, because of that she from the village with hope that someone could take care of her and that was when she met Magaji who promised to accommodat­e her in his family house.

She noted that unfortunat­ely he took her to an uncomplete­d building in the outskirts of the town, phoned three of his friends and together they raped her.

However, the suspects denied the allegation just as they admitted meeting her at the said building.

In another developmen­t, the commission has arrested a 60-year-old butcher, Muhammad Maidambo, of Shuni town in Dange-Shuni Local Government Area for impregnati­ng a 25-year-old deaf and mute.

While confessing the crime, he said it was the work of the devil, saying his intention was to marry her.

Dr Kasarawa said the suspected rapists would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibitio­n of Traffiking in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP) for further action while the commission would seek for a fiat to prosecute Maidambo.
