FG, please address the plight of Okpella community

- Abednigo Imiagbedion is the acting Secretary-General, Okpella Progressive Union Northern Congress.

Okpella community, a community close to Auchi situated along the BeninAbuja federal high way in Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State is again passionately appealing to the federal government to come to its aid and complete the water project which was abandoned several years ago.

At the end of a congress meeting held in Zaria recently, our socio-cultural group, the Okpella Progressive Union Northern Congress (OPU), also lamented the unwholesome practice of marginalization and exploitation by the various companies operating in Okpella community.

The activities of these companies are unbecoming and unacceptable to the community and we charge them to as a matter of exigency, make available some sensitive and key positions to qualified Okpella indigenes.

Our community, however, commends BUA for its magnanimous intervention in the monthly payment of electricity bills on behalf of the community and the jobs it has so far given to Okpella indigenes, especially the youths as the development has helped to minimize social menace and youth restiveness.

We urge the companies to uphold the tenets of their social and economic responsibilities to their host communities, by embarking on meaningful projects like provision of pipe borne water, construction of township roads, schools, clinics, in order to complement the state and local governments in the provision of these vital amenities to the good people of Okpella.

We also call on security agencies to help Okpella community in checking the rising cases of cultism.
