- PAGE 32 TAMBARI

During the holy month of Ramadan, it is important to guide your kids in the right direction to reap the benefits of the month. Encouraging them to participate in religious activities like praying, fasting and supplication can be tasking due to a kids nature of wanting to play so it is crucial to ensure that you strike a balance between play and worship for the kids.

Let them know that there is a time for everything, and worship cannot be joined with anything else and also remind them of how much closer to God they are while performing prayers. But still, give them time to play just as long as it doesn’t conflict the time of worship. Once they see the number of people that come to the mosque and church to pray, it will also encourage them to do so. Also, make sure they stand beside you and monitor them closely while the prayers are being conducted. Constantly remind your child the importance of praying, fasting, and reading the Qur’an and Bible too. Play comes secondary to anything else so before they can play, they must have performed their prayers and all other necessary worship.Sit them down and talk to them about fasting and praying and living right. Make them understand why you are restraining them from certain activities at this period especially in the period of Ramadan and Lent. Whenever it’s time for family religious activities, try to get them involved. Make the session as enjoyable as you can for them.

Pay close attention to the kind of play your kids engage in. rough and dangerous play that will exhaust them is not advisable. Also as parents, we should monitor the kind of games our children play especially with various game apps available online. Most games are dangerous for children.
