Igbo quit notice: Christian leaders declare 30-day fast, prayers

Agroup under the aegis of Non-Indigenous Christian Leaders Network (NICLN), Kaduna State has urged Nigerians to embark on a 30-day fast against the quit notice issued to the Igbo by some northern groups.

The chairman and secretary of the network, Reverend Joseph Ajayi and Pastor Vitalis Yahemba, in a statement issued yesterday condemned the action of the northern groups, noting that it has become necessary for clerics to pray for God’s intervention.

The quit notice, according to the statement is “evil, disgraceful and a threat to national security and unity”.

According to the duo, it is the constitutional right of every law abiding Nigerian to live in peace, move freely and carry out his/her legitimate duties in any part of the country.

While commending the timely response of the Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, they noted that urgent steps must be taken to check such outbursts.

The leaders also called on the Corporate Affairs Commission to cancel certificates of incorporation or registration of any group that promotes disunity.

“We should celebrate the nation’s diversity and live together in peace and harmony as brothers and sisters and not sow seed of hatred. While government and the security agencies are handling their own parts, we call on Nigerians irrespective of religion to pray and fast for 30 days to seek the face of God concerning the nation.
