- Stories by HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU With additional information from the internet

It isn’t an unusual thing to break the fast; and after eating, tiredness and laziness kicks. In turn, this makes it difficult for us to carry out other activities like taraweeh prayers and other chores at night. A lot of things are neglected due to fatigue. But there are ways in which one can overcome this. Plan your meal: Make sure you know how to balance what you are going to eat when you break your fast. Concentrating on foods that boost energy that was lost during the day is important.

Focus on drinking fruit and vegetable juice: Break the fast by hydrating your body with juices that have vitamins and minerals. These are rich in electrolytes and hydrate your body thereby

stimulating blood flow. Don’t indulge in too much

carbohydrates: Carbs like fried potatoes, yams, bread and kunu can cause laziness and sleepiness when eaten too much. So ensure that the portion of carbohydrates on your plate is the smallest.

Eat vegetables: Vegetables aid quick and easy digestion of food. By doing so, your body doesn’t have to stress itself too hard working on digestion. An ample amount of leafy or any vegetable of choice ought to do the trick.

Don’t overfeed: It isn’t a hidden fact that overstuffing yourself with food to the point you have difficulty breathing is a bad idea. Of course you’d feel tempted with all the aromatic smell of food wafting around the house while you are on an empty stomach. But if you overfeed, needless to say your body will become weak with fatigue and you will feel uncomfortable too. So when having your iftar, eat till you are at the brink of fullness but not overstuffed like a turkey.
