Fashola: ‘Power sector is in transition

Please revisit the power privatization and address all the grey areas. We cannot continue to pay lip service to the issue of electricity. No nation can develop without adequate power supply.

Something urgent has to be done. It appears that the power situation has worsened since the privatisation.

I am really disappointed with the state of things because this government promised improved power supply, but sadly we are yet to see that. This government has to sit-up and deliver on the dividends of democracy. We cannot continue like this. Its over two years now and we really have nothing to show.

I hope that the roads will be fixed before the toll-gates return because I remember that when the price of fuel was increased we were told that there will be improved infrastructure but till date nothing has changed.

This government is quick at introducing policies but nothing to show. I am yet to see the difference between the past administration and this one.

Please do not put toll gates on the Enugu-Onitsha expressway or the LagosIbadan expressway. Do not compound the suffering of the masses. Once toll gates are introduced, fares will also increase. That will be too much for the ordinary Nigerian, who is already having a tough time due to the economic recession.

I wonder why this government will be thinking of further taxing Nigerians, when many people can barely feed. What exactly is this government doing for the masses? Since it came in, it has been one increment or the other. It increased fuel price, electricity tariff and now, thinking of toll. Please this government should have mercy on the common man and come up with policies that will help the people.

This is not important for now. What we need are jobs and investors. More seaports should be opened. The most annoying part is that the money gotten from the toll gates may be diverted. No need to enrich a few Nigerians at the detriment of the larger population.

That should have been a priority for this administration. We also need to block all leakages so that money realised from the toll gates can be used to improve the lives of citizens.

We must not forget the multiplier effect of this decision. With the re-introduction of toll gates, prices of food stuff will increase. Already prices of food items are high so if that happens what will become of the masses? I urge the government to have a re-think.
