Foods that cause/ prevent body odour

-

As the saying goes; you are what you eat. Whatever goes into your body shows on you or in this case, smells on you. Your choice of food actually does have a direct impact on the smell you give off. Doctor Ankama of Nasara Specialist Hospital, Kaduna spoke on how these foods affect your body and why reviewing what you eat might be a good idea.

A few foods that cause body odour are;

Spicy food: Spicy foods can lead to excessive sulfur in your food intake which it exits through your pores. So try to lay off the peppers, garlic and onions or take them in moderate amounts.

Junk foods: Now cutting off junk food can be a task for some of us. However, we are aware of its implications, and body odour is one of them. Eating junk food without proper exercise can lead to accumulated fatty cells, which is one of the main reasons behind body odour. Foods with high oil, sugar, flour and salt levels are not a good idea.

Low carbs: A low carbohydrate diet can lead to an excess release of sweat. If you are on a low diet then perhaps some oats or other grains are a better alternative for you.

Fish: Fish is very beneficial healthwise, but then it is also very high in choline which gives it its signature fish smell and can rub off on your smell too when consumed in big amounts.

Red meat: Eating red meat in large portions is harder to digest and leaves residue behind which when released as sweat mixed with bacteria intensifies body odour.

Surprised right! But not to worry as we also tell you about foods that prevent body ordour. Foods that prevent body odour include: Herbs: Herbs are naturally fragrant. They are rich in chrophyll which counteract odour. Herbs like mint, parsley, cilantro and basil are all great herbs that prevent body odour.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon is a spice but is far from spicy. It has an amazing aroma which is great for body and mouth odour as it has antibacterial properties.

Fruits: Fruits, most especially citrus like lemons and oranges are strong in smell and are rich in vitamin C which fights off bacteria. Consuming these as a part of your daily diet will definitely curb body odour.
