Why regular visit to a dermatologist is important

- Stories by HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

Skin reveals how much care you really give to your body. Healthy, glowing skin reflects and reveals just how well you treat it. It is important that your skin is well cared for and checked on a regular basis, and a dermatologist is in the best position to check your skin.

We tend to overlook a lot of skin issues that could be serious. Doctor Ankama of Nasara Specialist Hospital, Kaduna spoke on a few of the issues that you should be visiting your dermatologist regularly on.

Acne: Acne may seem like a common skin problem that you can easily treat or just choose to ignore completely. But if those breakouts keep recurring or leaves scars, then a visit to a dermatologist is necessary.

Skin cancer: Prevention is better than cure. Seeing a dermatologist regularly for skin cancer screening cannot be overemphasised. If you see any changes in your skin like moles or spots, then book an appointment as soon possible.

Skin conditions: Conditions like psoriasis, eczema and allergies are chronic and so should not be handled lightly but rather, if you know you have such a condition then going to a dermatologist regularly for treatment and checkups will only do good for your skin.

Doctor’s advice: Your doctor is your friend and in the case of your skin, your dermatologist is. Your dermatologist knows your skin better than you do and tells you useful information on what your skin needs, what it doesn’t and the right way to go about taking care of it. So if you haven’t paid your dermatologist a visit recently, then now is the right time to consider going.
