‘I Wrote This For You’ speaks for the oppressed’

- By Bamas Victoria

The president of Samira Sanusi Sickle Cell Foundation, and Author of ‘S is for Survivor’ a memoir, Samira Sanusi, has said that her new book is for people who have been denied their rights.

She said her new book, ‘I Wrote This For You’ “is for the woman who’s fighting for her right to grow and create, and for the man who has been denied the right to be a boy, forced to be a man right from childhood.”

The book published by Words Rhymes and Rhythm publishing is a collection of prose, poetry and short essays that talk about the journey through pain, hope, strength, selfdiscovery, healing and overcoming.

Samira said, ‘I Wrote This For You’, is different from ‘S is for Survivor’ because it shifts the attention from her personal experiences and struggles and surviving Sickle Cell Anaemia, and focuses on her journey through healing and overcoming. She said “its main focus is the journey that lies ahead as we try to make sense of our past, the role it played in shaping us, and what we become.” Samira hopes that her words will continue to inspire and motivate people, and that the message she is trying to send is heard and received. Samira, who was named among 100 Arewa influential people added, “a lot of what I’ve written are things I wish were said to me, and I understand the power and difference you can make when you reach out to others through words”. “My work sells itself to readers because I am open, vulnerable and relatable in my writing,” she said.
