Open letter to Governor Bello, others

- Anold Ali Ovurevu, Lokoja

Dear Governor Yahaya Bello and lawmakers from Kogi State, this is not the time to stage a social media debate on the Kabba-Ilorin road contract awarded by the Federal Government. No!

Yes, the road belongs to the Federal Government; hence the responsibility to construct it falls on its shoulders. It is, therefore, expected that lawmakers from the state should influence the Federal Government to include it as a project in the budget. And going by the relationship between Senate President Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye, who represents a section of the state in the National Assembly, attracting Federal Government’s attention and sympathy to that road and others should not be an uphill task. Or are they only in good terms for the wrong reasons? If they cannot do it for the people, they should at least do it for political relevance and survival. This is simple logic.

Also, a picture in circulation where Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was having a discussion with the Minister of Power, Work and Housing, Raji Fashola, is an indication that the governor has access to the minister, so he should use that opportunity to draw federal attention to all the federal roads in the state. It should not be a tool for propaganda against opponents. To say the least, the Okene-Lokoja road should be his priority because it has a lot of economic benefits.

Come to think of it, for about two years now, no road has been completed and commissioned in Kogi Central. I am yet to see any, and I challenge anybody to prove me wrong. Also, in Kogi West, the governor has not touched any state-owned road. And this administration in Kogi is already one year and seven months old. My worry is: If the governor cannot pay attention to projects that are his direct responsibility, how would he be able to attract federal attention?

The Kogi State Government should know that time is actually running out. Let them wake up from their slumber.
