Winners emerge in Ecuador/ Nigeria short story prize

The Writers Forum (AWF) has announced the winners of the Ecuador/Nigeria Young Writers Prize.

In a press statement issued by the forum, the judges of the prize, headed by Prof. Zaynab Alkali, who is joined on by Friday Ejilogo and George Bala, announced a list of five winners for the maiden edition of the prize, which was judged blind.

In first place is Tunde Ososanya for ‘Wellington Street’ while the first runner up is Jude Valentine Badaki for ‘Canvass of Colours while in third place is Chike- Nzube Harry Nlebedim for his story, ‘The Tale Of ‘Alvine’.

Blessing Akinsehinw­a (On the Shores of Death) and Jojo Altine El-Hassan (Killing Me Softly) are in fourth and fifth place respective­ly.

The winner, Tunde Ososanya, 27, is a graduate of Mass Communicat­ion from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos. He hails from Ijebu Ode in Ogun Abuja State but lives in Lagos, where he writes full time. He was a participan­t of the 2015 ANA/ Yusuf Ali Creative Writing Workshop in Abuja. In 2016, he published an eBook version of his debut book - a collection of short stories titled Later Tonight.

Earlier in June at the Guest Writer Session for that month, the Ambassador of Ecuador to Nigeria, Mr Leopold Verdosoto announced the that his embassy will sponsor the prize as well as the publicatio­n of the winning stories in both English and Spanish.
