HEALTHY LIVING Why you should not over indulge this festive season
The Christmas period is fast approaching. It is a season of merry making with friends and loved ones accompanied with tempting foods and drinks shared around. It is a little festive indulgence. But over-indulgence is something you need to keep in mind: that you don’t need to force down that extra serving of dessert or a handful of sweets this festive season.
Dr. Michael Obuh of General Hospital, Sabon Wuse shared some helpful tips on how to overcome over-indulging this Christmas:
Modify your eating habit: it is undeniable that there will be varieties to eat from, but you have to ensure that your meal is balanced. Practice healthy nutrition and eat healthy meals such as fruits, vegetables and foods with less fat, and eat sweets in moderation. and sweetened drinks that can cause damage to the body, and can affect your waist line. Don’t forget to watch what the kids eat to avoid their falling ill or having constipation.
Maintain your exercise routine: It can be difficult to achieve this since everyone is busy shopping and decorating the house for the Christmas that they tend to forget to exercise. Lazing around the house during this festive season can be damaging; so make sure to train every day: take a walk around the house with your family, or better still, use the stairs more often, it will keep you going.
Stock the food store with healthy meals instead of loading the fridge with sugary and unhealthy foodstuffs: foods with fats, alcoholic drinks and too much carbohydrate. It is advisable to store healthy meals for yourself and relatives coming over. It will save cost and keep you healthy, young and vibrant.
Relax your body and mind: Don’t be too busy making decorations and buying gifts. This festive season is an opportunity to relax and have fun with your family since it is a holiday. Don’t be too engaged: free your body and mind.
