Blames Buhari over Kano APC leadership change

- From Yusha’u A. Ibrahim, Kano

Kwankwasiyya, a political movement within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly facilitating the removal of Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa as the APC chairman in Kano State.

Addressing a press conference yesterday in Kano, a former commissioner in the state and stalwart in the movement, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, said it was unfortunate that the president had facilitated the removal of an elected APC officer before the expiration of his tenure.

The press conference was coming after the APC National Headquarters issued a letter confirming Engineer Bashir Yahaya Karaye as acting APC chairman in the state.

Karaye took over the party from Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, who recently stepped down and was subsequently appointed Commissioner for Special Services in the state.

Abdulsalam said, “We are aware of the plan directed by President Muhammadu Buhari through his Personal Assistant on Broadcast Media, Alhaji Ibrahim Sha’aban Sharada and others to remove our duly elected Chairman Haruna Umar Doguwa without due recount to part constitution.

“This is unacceptable and we reject it in totality. The action of the National Working Committee of our great party did not in any way coincide with the provisions of APC Constitution and we will not consider any issue of that nature and as such the decision will not stand,” he said.

He pointed out that “as party loyalists we are calling on the party leadership to as a matter of urgency reinstate Doguwa to avoid needless repercussions that may follow the action.”
