2019: PDP asks INEC to weed unscrupulous officials
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to weed out corrupt officials ahead of the 2019 general polls.
The party also asked the commission to resist antidemocratic forces before and during the elections by not allowing the will of the people to be subverted.
The PDP in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said specifically that the commission should not allow the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to interfere with the electoral process.
The opposition party also called on all Nigerians to join hands in strengthening the nation’s democratic practice through active participation in political education and mobilization to ensure free, fair and transparent polls.
“The PDP charges the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Mahmood Yakubu, to ensure a credible 2019 general election by insulating the commission from external interferences, particularly from the ruling APC as well as weed out all compromised officials, who could be used by undemocratic forces to try to subvert the will of the people,” the PDP said.
Meanwhile, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus in a statement yesterday said Nigerians should expect robust opposition in 2018.
“2017 was tough for us but the worst is over, we are now more than ever determined to take power back in Nigeria because the writing on the wall is clear that the ruling party cannot cope.
“We sympathize with Nigerians for the hardship they have been going through in the hand of APC administration but assured them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
