The Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong is expected as the Special Guest of Honour at the grand finale of the ongoing 2017 Peace Tournament on Tuesday.

The Special Guest who will be performing his second official polo function after his inauguration in 2015 would be leading a high power delegation that include members of state Executive Council to the closing ceremony of the polo fiesta that is staged to consolidate and celebrate the new found peace in the Jos capital city and its environs.

The Governor, who is the Grand Patron of the polo club, would be received on arrival at the foremost General Hassan katsina Polo Ground by the President of the Nigeria Polo Federation, (NPF) Francis Ogboro and other top officials of Jos Polo Club.

Lalong, who has been a passionate polo buff, would witness the final match of the Governor’s Cup and stayed back to present the prizes to the winners, before drawing the curtain on the international polo fiesta that attracted over fifteen teams from across the country.

Meanwhile, Nigerian polo ruling authority, NPF has hailed the partnership between the Jos Polo Club and the Plateau State Government as a major tool that has been driving the tourism potential of the state and contribute immensely to the social development of the country.

NPF also thank Governor Lalong, all the major sponsors and partners for their immense support.

Ogboro also commended the performances of the Jos teams that have taken pole position in the race for the major prizes on offer during the event.

“I’m impress that it has been an accident free tournament so far. I want to salute the players for their discipline and high standard of play witnessed so far,” NPF President declares.

Organized and hosted by the foremost Jos Polo Club, the prestigious annual event that was staged as part of efforts at consolidating peace in the centre of peace & tourism, became the talks of the carnival as thousands of residents who throng the serene polo ground on Joseph Comwalk Road, urged the organizers to give them more of the game of kings action.

“This is heart-warming and we are privileged to be part of it in the past three years. Watching high flying polo games in Jos after many years of inaction, is a dream come true for most of us who used to drive for hours to Abuja, Kaduna, Bauchi and Yola, to enjoy the exciting game of polo,” declared a lawyer, Barristers Haroun Audu.

“We are also happy to see so many Jos residents, the business communities and the entire citizens of Plateau State, coming out in their droves, to confirm that peace has truly returned to the state. The huge crowd that witness the weeklong tournament on a daily basis is the strongest evidence yet,” Audu pointed out.
