Chelsea starlet Ike Ugbo has joined MK Dons on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old Nigerian-born striker completed his move last week. Speaking to MK Dons’ official website, Ugbo said: “I’m delighted to join such a great club and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve settled in well today – the players made me feel comfortable and at home.

“The players MK Dons have helped develop over the years like Dele Alli and Benik Afobe inspired me to come here.

“Hopefully I can do my best to help the team climb up the table.”

Ugbo moved to Championship side Barnsley in the summer on a season-long deal but struggled to make an impact with the Tykes.

The England Under-20s international only managed to hit the target once in his 18 appearances in the second-tier.

Barnsley, Chelsea and Ugbo all felt it was best to end the move this window and his new manager Robbie Neilson is pleased to have finally captured one of his top summer targets.

He added: “Ike was one of our main targets during the summer but he went to the Championship.

“We’re really pleased, though, that it has worked out for us in January.

“He will definitely add a lot to the team – he’s a natural finisher but he’s also got great link play and good pace and physicality.”

Ugbo is rated as one of the top prospects at Chelsea after starring for their youth sides over the last couple of years.

His goals helped them to capture several trophies, including the Uefa Youth League, FA Youth Cup and the U18s Premier League.
