Impeachment plan against Saraki will boomerang – Baraje

- From Romoke Ahmad, Ilorin W.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, yesterday warned against any plot to oust the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, from office.

He advised anyone nursing such plan to tread with caution as any attempt to remove Saraki as the Senate President would “boomerang”.

Baraje, a former acting National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) while speaking to journalists in Ilorin as part of activities to mark his 67th birthday, said he was aware of on-going gimmicks by certain forces. He said those in the Saraki camp are watching those behind the plan closely. Baraje maintained that Saraki is doing a good job at the Senate and cannot be intimidated by anyone.

“Many of us helped to build the APC. I’m one of them, he (Saraki) was and is still one of them. We are still building the party. I think the party has not made a statement about the so called threat to impeach him. We only learnt about it from the news and I think very sincerely that there must be a solid ground before you can impeach somebody like him”, he said.

On the 2019 general election, the APC stalwart urged those with governorship ambition within the ruling party in Kwara State to be cognisant of the tradition of the state political structure through which elective office holders are recruited.

Baraje admonished them to be wary of what he called inordinate ambition and eschew any act that could heat up the polity.
