Dapchi kidnap: British Armed Forces to collaborate with Nigeria
The British Military Advisory and Training Team in Nigeria has assured the Nigeria Armed Forces of its partnership to help secure release of the kidnapped girls from Dapchi, Yobe State as well as curb issues of insecurity in the country.
Speaking to the press yesterday in Abuja, during a discussion on prioritizing the voices of women in security organizations using the second generation national action plan (2017- 2020) organised by Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN), Major Ian Robertson representing the British Armed Forces, said they just received the information and that they were gathering more.
According to him, “let me you reassure that from the British ministry perceptive, we monitor events closely and we are working with the Nigerian Armed Forces to see how we can assist.”
On her part, Executive Director, Partners West Africa Nigeria, Kemi Okenyodo, said the meeting was aimed at facilitating security sector reform processes in the North-East, with a view to identifying good practices that can be replicated in other parts of the country.
She said the organisation organized a workshop in February 2017, with the aim of bringing together women from the NorthCentral; North-East and NorthWest geopolitical zones for a training program aimed at ‘prioritising the voices of women in the security sector.’
Okenyodo noted that the outcome of the meeting will be shared with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and other colleagues working on promoting implementation of the Second Generation National Action Plan (2017- 2020).
