AND FOR THE FACT THAT I STUDIED LITERATURE, I LIKE WHAT I READ. I AM NOT A LAWYER BUT HAPPY TO BE AN ENGLISH LECTURER

- My stint in politics

and I was happy as there were many ladies that formed part of the team and were actually mentored.

In those days, it was a problem for donor agencies to get capable hands in northern Nigeria; especially the women, but that project provided the opportunity for both men and women to be mentored. It was an integrated project and therefore, a big one that consisted of a team of about 25 people. At the end of the project in 2009, I went back to my NGO. I thought I was done with full time job when another project came on board, Northern Education Initiative (NEI).

Therefore, I was called to serve as Deputy Country Director in Sokoto by a donor partner, Creative International.

I felt the only way to contribute effectively is to join politics. I ventured into politics in 2007 and contested for a seat in the senate for Jigawa North West. It was a good experience; and since then I have been in the limelight, politically. I was the National Vice Chairperson of the defunct ACN. I am very proud to say I helped the party from 2007 to 2013. During the merger, I was a member of the national merger committee. As national vice chair, I negotiated for the party. I am also proud to say we produced a governor because Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar was actually an ACN member. I have been working with him all along since the time he joined ACN. I was in several convention committees, I was a member of the presidential campaign council.

I joined politics because of the vision I have for education in northern Nigeria. I felt the vision may not come to fruition if I did not participate in the political arena. So I sacrificed a lot of things to be in politics. I am not regretting anything and I hope this is what is going to be of benefit to me here and hereafter.

Being in politics does not stop me from consultancy work. While as National Vice Chair of ACN, I worked with Arewa House. I am still a member of the steering committee of Arewa House Research and Development Project, and also a convener and leader of the education team for that particular work.
