Open letter to Governor El-Rufai

- Jabir T. Usman Kaduna south, Kaduna

Iwrite to emphasise the need for peace in Kaduna State. In fact there is no state or country in the world that can develop without peace. But, peace cannot be properly restored in areas that have experienced conflicts without the government dealing with those who instigated the violence.

Sir, what happened to the recommendations of the report of the commission of inquiry, which you assigned General Martin Luther Agwai to chair? The committee submitted a report on the Southern Kaduna crises? There is a need for the recommendations of that report and other reports on violence in the state to be implemented. Perpetrators should be made to understand that they cannot get away easily.

Also, it is important to note that the creation of additional chiefdoms and district heads by the Makarfi government was part of the recommendations of a commission of inquiry on the religious and ethnic crises which occurred during the former governor’s tenure. And they were created so that traditional rulers could help in the peace building efforts. So I think traditional rulers play significant role in the society and anything that can be done to encourage them should be done. Recently, there have been pockets of crises in parts of the state. I urge the governor to do his best so that all the perpetrators can be brought to book.
