It appears the Presidency is selective in its response to Gen. Theophilus Danjuma. I didn’t hear condemnation when some traditional rulers in some parts of the country called on the people to defend themselves and I don’t think that is the best way of handling the situation. People are living in perpetual fear across the country, so let us all forget about the messenger and look at the message.

I don’t share the view that all serving soldiers are colluding with criminals, but we cannot rule out cases of betrayal of trust by a few of them and that should be investigated.

Why are people angry over a call on people to defend themselves? Should we continue to sit back and watch innocent people die? Our leaders are not doing enough. I pray God takes charge of the situation.

The current administration is not doing enough to secure lives and property and that is what prompted the advice. Instead of attacking the general, the government should look inwards and try to do better. Well, the Presidency may not like the statement, but people cannot continue to die without any reaction.

Gen.Danjuma spoke the truth with pains and emotion. The government should note that even if it attacks the messenger, the words have made impact on the people.

Gen Danjuma is in the right position to assess the security situation and proffer advice and that is what he has done.

Why is this government always up in arms against anyone who criticises it? How will it improve on services to the people if it continues like this?

The retired General should have made his concerns about the military known to the government. Calling on people to defend themselves can be misconstrued and the nation could be thrown into chaos. I see elements of truth in his statement, though. The general has spoken the truth. The best thing for the government is for it to analyse the situation and address the concerns. General Danjuma is a citizen of Nigeria and has a right to air his views on national issues.
