Zuru community to celebrate Uhola festival

The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sani Sami (Gomo II) has announced the commenceme­nt date of the annual Uhola Festival in Zuru community of Kebbi State.

The royal father while declaring that the festival will hold from 11 to 14 of April this year called on the federal and state government­s to support and fund the promotion of Uhola cultural festival in Zuru land.

The Emir said his community was blessed with important historical sites such as the Germache Shrine, Isgogo Slave Market, Tar D’ wawanta, Zwin Gorge, Sem-D’gyozdne, Karishin Hills, Bululu Falls, Ukulu Walls and the Ancient settlement­s

“In view of this, I call on the state and federal government­s on behalf of my people to fully fund and support the developmen­t of Uhola Festival into one of the greatest cultural festivals in North West part of Nigeria,” he said.

The Emir while announcing that the annual Uhola Festival said cultural festivals are veritable vehicles that drive tourism globally. He observed that the annual Uhola Festival has promoted cultural and arts tourism in Kebbi State and the country at large.

“You will agree with me that hosting a festival of this magnitude requires a huge budget which is beyond the capacity of our community,” he said.

He added that if Zuru must contribute its quota in realizing the national objectives of creating an alternativ­e income for the country, the state, federal government and internatio­nal community must develop and fund cultural and arts potentials of his community.

The Emir said that the objectives of the annual Uhola festival in Zuru was aimed at building peace, encouragin­g national cohesion and creating employment for the teeming youth particular­ly in the rural areas of the community..

During the annual cultural festival participan­ts are drawn from the five chiefdoms of the community Dabai, Danko, Wasagu, Fakai and Sakaba in Zuru Emirate area of Kebbi State.
