Wenger confident Ramsey will extend Emirates contract

-

Arsenal are desperate to tie Aaron Ramsey down to a new long-term deal and avoid a similar situation to the one which saw Alexis Sanchez leave for rivals Manchester United.

Ramsey, who scored twice against CSKA Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday, including one via a fantastic volleyed flick, will be in the final year of his contract next season.

The 27-year-old Wales international is currently on £110,000 a week at the Emirates Stadium and money could become a significant stumbling block in talks.

Arsenal have splashed out on contracts recently, including £350,000 for Mesut Ozil and around £200,000 for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Ramsey will want a healthy increase on his own wages and Wenger said: “We are communicating. I’m confident. He is not at the end of his contract. He has oneand-a-half years to go.”

Asked how fundamental it is that Ramsey commits himself to the club, Wenger continued: “On my side that is clear. We have always to find agreements.

“We want him to stay because he is one of the guys who has been here for a long time and will be an important player in the future for the club. We want the players to be happy to play for the club.

“The players who want to stay here play for the club with the way we want to play football, and with the values we think are important for us, and with the right amount of money we want to pay them. All the three have to be together. He’s an important player for me and for the club.”
