- By Joshua Odeyemi

The second edition of the Lawyers’ Football 5 aside Competition otherwise known as Prince Lateef Fagbemi Football tournament among the law firms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)) commenced last weekend in grand style as Prince Lateef Fagbemi Clubs defeated Raji Football club 4-2 in the opening game.

Organisers said 12 law firm clubs were participating in this year’s competition which will run for three weeks.

Speaking shortly after the opening match of the competition, the coordinator of the event Olujimi Olujide said this year’s competition is particularly unique as more firms were participating compared to the previous edition.

According to him, the main purpose of this competition is to bring another platform for Lawyers to relate apart from the court room and law firm where they normally have interactions.

“This is a special platform, no suit, no wigs, no tie, everybody is free, we are getting used to each other from different law firms.

“So far, I can say there is a great improvement from what we saw last year because we have up to 12 law firms presently at this pitch. It’s a major progress from what we had last year.

“It [the competition] cut across all strata of legal practitioners and will last for three weeks and the final comes up 22nd of April, 2018.”

Olujimi pointed out that the incentives for the winning teams and individual award winners categories have been scaled up, adding that the winner, second and third place positions will smile home with #200,000, #150,000 and #100,000 respectively.
