The rainy season doesn’t leave us thirsty; that is why many don’t drink enough water. Failing to stay hydrated can actually be hazardous to your health, potentially leading to dangerous situations.

According to Dr. Nathaniel Adewole, drinking water regularly during the rainy season is just as important as in the dry season as our bodies need water to function properly. Staying hydrated is key to good health.

Water comprises over two thirds of our body and use it to complete all the vital processes within our body that keep us alive beside your body’s basic functioning does not change in winter; therefore changing your water drinking habits is not advisable.

Here are the main reasons you shouldn’t play with your water intake this rainy season.

• Drinking water helps top-up the balance of body fluid, which we need for digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients and maintenance of body temperature.

• Water helps to energise muscles and boost your immune system.

• Our skin tends to take a lot of walloping during the rainy season and water helps to keep it looking good.

• Water helps your kidneys and transports waste products in and out of cells.

• The main toxin in the body is blood urea nitrogen, a water-soluble waste that is able to pass through the kidneys to be excreted in the urine.

Don’t be fooled into completely eliminating water in the rainy season. Staying hydrated this season is a must, whether you feel thirsty or not. Consuming foods that are water-based can be of great help to the body too.
