Reach FM/TV: Rocha’s broadcast media compete for airwaves

Reach FM and Television, another addition to the media made its debut in Imo State amidst splendor. Owned by the family of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, the medium is expected to compete for the airwaves with the likes of My Radio FM, Hot FM, Darling FM and Zandas FM, which are equally privately-owned and Orient FM/ TV and Radio Nigeria’s Heartland FM, the two government broadcast stations in the state.

The station, which will broadcast on 96.3 frequency modulated (FM), will be managed by Okorocha’s eldest daughter, Uloma Rochas Nwosu as Chief Executive Officer of The Reach Media Group.

Situated in a three-storey building and tucked away in the serene new Owerri area of the state capital, the media firm, according Mrs Nwosu, will draw its target audience from the whole of South East and will open a new vista in broadcast journalism.

Nwosu, speaking at the unveiling of the station penultimat­e Friday, said that the station will present balanced reportage, balanced, responsive and inclusive electronic coverage of events.

At the occasion, an elated Okorocha said that the station will be one of the best in Africa. He said the management of the outfit is in safe hands with his daughter the head.

He said, “…Informatio­n will now be disseminat­ed the way they should and I hope and I know this station will enrich the people with quality education through correct news and also have people get access to what is happening in the modern world so that we can also grow. Expect that it will be the best in the whole of Africa.”

The importance of the occasion was signified by the array of celebritie­s that graced the even. They included 2Baba, Uti Nwachukwu who anchored the event and the winner of the just-concluded Big Brother Naija Reality Show, Miracle Igbokwe and others. Also in attendance were government officials, led by the Commission­er for Informatio­n, Professor Nnamdi Obiareri and Deputy Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Mr Ugonna Ozuruigbo, who led members of the State House of Assembly to the epoch event.
