Tijjani Umar’s NBBF mourns late Punch Newspaper boss

The Tijjani Umar- led Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has expressed shock over the death of the proprietor of the Dolphins Basketball club, Mr. Wale Aboderin.

In a statement signed by NBBF Media Adviser, Patrick Omorodion at the weekend, the body said it received the news of the death of the former Chairman of Punch Newspaper on 30th May 2018, with a heavy heart.

Until his demise, he was the proprietor of the Dolphins Basketball club, a top female team in the Zenith Bank Premier League.

He mentored youths, challenged them to excel and personally coached the Dolphins to the national championsh­ip two seasons ago.

“’Chairman’, as he is fondly called by all, lived basketball as his life’s passion,” the statement said in part.

“He served basketball in several capacities as Chairman Lagos basketball associatio­n, Vice President, Nigeria Basketball Supporters Club and was also an acknowledg­ed sports philanthro­pist.

“The Tijjani Umar - led NBBF commiserat­es with the Aboderin family and the Dolphins Basketball Foundation during this difficult time and urges those he left behind to hold on to the ideals he lived by and protect the legacies he left.

“The federation and the larger Nigerian basketball family would surely miss his towering presence at our basketball gatherings.”
