FG assures of East-West road completion
The federal government has said that it would prioritise the completion of the East-West road.
This was made known by the Inter-Ministerial Committee which was on assessment tour of the EastWest road project.
The inter-ministerial committee is made up of the Ministries of Niger Delta Affairs, Transportation, Power, Works and Housing and Information and Culture.
Speaking at the end of the tour, the Minister, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, said it is because of the importance the Federal Executive Council places on the East-West road project that it set up the committee.
Usani, who expressed satisfaction on the progress of work, added that contractors only need more funds to execute the job.
Also speaking, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, noted that the tour had changed his perception that government was doing nothing about the project.
“If I had not come on this inspection myself, I would have been among those who are saying that nothing is being done, but we drove all the way from Benin, through the East-West road from Warri to Port Harcourt, and there were no potholes,” said.
He said it was important for people of the South-South region to appreciate the contributions of the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, to the development of the Niger Delta region while appealing to youths in the region to desist from vices that can impede the development.
