Sarri to name Hazard as Chelsea’s captain

-

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is reportedly considering making Eden Hazard captain in an attempt to convince the Belgian to remain at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have allegedly told interested clubs - including Barcelona and Real Madrid - that World Cup semi-finalist Hazard, who has been linked with a move away - will cost £200m in the current transfer window.

According to The Mirror, Sarri’s next move in a bid to keep hold of Hazard is to offer him a role as captain, with the Italian boss reportedly determined to ignore interest from the La Liga duo.

The newspaper says that while Sarri has not finalised his decision, Hazard is a strong contender to be skipper alongside Cesc Fabregas and Cesar Azpilicueta.

If Hazard is handed the captaincy, some hope that he would choose to stay at Stamford Bridge, rather than be tempted by Real Madrid.

The Blues are insisting that they will not sell the Belgium national team player, even though Los Blancos could pay up to £150m.

Hazard joined Chelsea in 2012, and has been named their Player of the Year three times, but is currently stalling his contract signing.

Gary Cahill was Chelsea’s last captain, but the midfielders’ future at the club is uncertain as the club are close to bringing in Daniele Rugani.
