Giwa plans big for Nigerian football

Factional president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ambassador Chris Giwa has revealed that his board plans to set up six developmen­t centres in 2019, one each in every geo-political region of the country.

Giwa who spoke to journalist­s after the Extra Ordinary General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which held in Abuja on Friday evening added that, “coming from my experience as a club owner, the onus of football developmen­t is the nursery and the league.”

One thing I can guarantee is the maximum use of all financial resources to generate new jobs, new confidence, improved league and great showing in African championsh­ips. This is not forgetting our biggest property, women football,” he said.

The former proprietor of Giwa FC of Jos said, “Each centre will have 72 coaches. We shall have the following genres in each centre: Women football, Futsal, beach soccer and 11-A-side. Every player must combine sports and education while on the school-based programme. No centre will have less than 10 well-grassed pitches.

The Congress also expressed deep appreciati­on to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for the protection of the nation’s sovereignt­y in sticking to the rule of law, and Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Developmen­t, Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung for also openly standing strongly in defence of the principles of separation of powers and rule of law.

The Congress also commended the efforts of the Football Elders Stakeholde­rs Reconcilia­tion Committee led by former NFF President, Colonel Abdulmumin­i Aminu (rtd) for their efforts at finding lasting solution to the current problem in the football house while passing a vote of confidence on the Executive Committee led by Ambassador Chris Giwa.
