- By Isiaka Wakili

Stakeholders Borno-North senatorial district on Friday bought N22.5 million All Progressives Congress’ governorship expression of interest and nomination forms for a chartered accountant, Idris Mamman, who is from the South Senatorial District of the state.

Alhahi Umar Kareto Lawan presented the forms to the chairman of the Southern Borno Movement for Rotation of Power, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman, who later handed them over to the aspirant.

Addressing journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Lawan described power rotation as crucial from to the 2019 governorship election in the state, noting that the southern part of the state had not produced governor since 1979.

“There have been a lot of complaints that the people of Southern Borno are marginalised. Nobody has marginalised anybody because nobody has come out to say he is looking for governorship until today. So, it is a matter of reaching out to the people.

“Power is not served à la carte. You have to reach out for it. You have to earn it. We wish him a very good time and we pray that the people will accept him with open arms,” said Lawan.

While receiving the forms on behalf of the aspirant, Usman expressed the gratitude of the people of the south senatorial district of the state to their counterparts in the north district for the gesture.

Usman said: “Power is never served on a platter of gold. We have never come out to say we wanted it. Now, we said we want it and we are glad that it is our own brothers from Northern Borno who contributed money to buy the forms. We are extremely grateful. By the time we get Idris Mamman into office, everybody is going to say there is a big change in Borno. He will carry everybody along.

“The aspirant has the capacity. He is a chartered accountant and he has risen to the position of a director in the federal ministry. Therefore, he is somebody that is highly qualified.”
