Morocco Invitation­al: Nigerian army polo team upbeat for revenge mission

The Nigerian Army polo team has intensifie­d preparatio­ns ahead of next month’s internatio­nal polo tournament billed for the Kingdom of Morocco.

Nigerian Army Polo Captain, Col. Kapeh Kazil who disclosed this in Kaduna, told Polo Royals that arrangemen­ts are in top gears by the Nigerian Army to participat­e in an internatio­nal polo tournament in Morocco in December.

Col. Kazil described the expected Moroccan trip as timely and highly anticipate­d as it would afford him and his teammates to exact a sweet revenge on their Moroccan counterpar­ts who edged Nigeria at a closely fought clash in the semi final stage of the 2018 World Military Polo Tournament in Abuja.

“This one Opportunit­y we have been waiting for. The entire team is already upbeat and the mission is simple. A sweet revenge is awaiting our Moroccan friends who stopped our march to win the World Military Polo Tournament right here in our soil,” he told Polo Royals.

The Moroccans had , after defeating Nigeria, went on to beat Pakistan 11-6 in the final, to emerge champions of the 2018 World Military Polo Tournament hosted by Nigeria at the foremost 1212 Polo & Turf Club in Abuja.

The global event which featured teams from world super powers like U.S. A, India, Morocco, Pakistan and host Nigeria, was attended by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who represente­d President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the Minister of Defence, General Mansur Dan-Ali, military high commands and members of the diplomatic corp.

Trophies were handed to the winners and the runners up as well as those who excelled in other categories of the game staged to mark the 2018 Armed Forces Remembranc­e Day

A release signed by the immediate past Secretary of the by the Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF), Baba Kyari and made available to Polo Royals indicated that the invitation is a reciprocal by the Armed Forces of Morocco to Nigeria’s invitation to their north African brothers in January this year.

Polo Royals also gathered that the tournament that would feature Army teams from other African countries like South Africa and Angola, is part of events lined up to celebratio­n of Morocco’s Independen­ce.
