‘Kpali,’ a movie on plight of a Nigerian immigrant, set to hit cinemas

- By Nathaniel Bivan

Kpali,’ a movie about a Nigerian girl whose work visa expires in London, is set to hit cinemas on December 20, 2019. It is described as a film that “will resonate with young and highly mobile Nigerians who schooled abroad, work abroad or are home for Christmas.”

The Executive Producer of the movie is Abhulime Ehiagwina, who is making his Nollywood debut alongside Producer Emem Ema, whose foray into the entertainment industry began as a member of girl band, ‘Kush.’

Ehiagwina said he is pleased with the outcome of ‘Kpali,’ a story he believes will further enrich the conversation about Nigerian immigrants in search of greener pastures.

For Ema “it was really exciting to see first-hand the deep connection between the actors and their roles on this project. It was a pretty intense production and we can’t wait to bring this remarkable experience to movie fans across Nigeria this December.”

In ‘Kpali,’ Amaka is young, single and stressed out. A London based investment banker, she is living her best life and navigating the constant pressure from her parents about getting married when life happens. Her company is downsizing and to keep her job and renew her work permit, Amaka must fly down to Nigeria and close a huge deal all within thirty days.

Described a quirky, laughout-loud romantic comedy from the Emem Ema led Vzhun Films, ‘Kpali’ is directed by Ladi Johnson and starring Nollywood stars like Ini Dima-Okojie in the lead role as Amaka, Nkem ‘Osuofia’ Owoh, Gloria Anozie- Young, Linda Ejiofo-Suleiman, Kunle Remi, as well as Uzor Arukwe, Abounce, Ik Osakioduwa, and Ade Adefeko.

Hollywood’s ‘Star Wars’ Torin Pocock is making his Nollywood debut in ‘Kpali’ where he plays Jake Hunters, Amaka Kalayor’s friend.
