- By Ernest Ekpenyong

Barely hours after the partial easing of COVID-19 lockdown, polo clubs across the country are busting with activities, as the game of kings is set to resume the concluding leg of the season.

Polo Royals checks reveal that two mini tournaments were held last weekend at the foremost Kano Polo Club and at Keffi Polo Ranch in Keffi, Nassarawa State.

Organizers of the events confirmed to Polo Royals on phone that the mini events were hosted belatedly, to mark the Sallah Holidays.

Other major polo clubs like Kaduna, Zaria, Port Harcourt, Ibadan and the Guards Brigade Polo Club in Asokoro, Abuja are sparking back to action with gradual individual practices to help their horses back ahead of the expected resumption of the season that was abruptly suspended last March due to COVID -19 pandemic

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic had recently lifted the suspension of sporting activities for selected sports in the first phase of the easing of the lockdown that would eventually lead to the full opening up of the sector.

Both events which were played behind closed arenas in adherence to COVID-19 protocols, were strictly on invitation as only selected players participated

Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry has welcomed the easing of the suspension on non-contact sporting activities across the country, assuring that very soon the sector would be completely open up for all sports.

The Director of Grassroots Development in the Sports Ministry; Dr Ademola Aare who gave this assurance recently, stated that normalcy will soon return to the sector, as the ministry is still engaging the relevance authorities.
