8 held over kidnapping in Oyo

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has arrested eight suspected kidnappers terrorisin­g the people of Ado Awaye, Araromi, Okaka, Ilero and Otu in Itesiwsju Local Government Areas of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, and in Ibadan yesterday. Mr. Olusegun quoted the

Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Iskilu Akinsanya, as saying that the suspects were apprehende­d by the Agro Rangers Squad of the command.

Mr. Akinsanya said the suspected kidnappers were arrested at about 9:15 pm on Thursday through informatio­n received from the Chief Jowuro of Oke-Ogun, Alhaji Baani Abubakar, that suspected kidnappers operating in the area were spotted in Bobajiroro

Hotel, Oke Adeta, Iseyin.

“The eight suspected kidnappers, (who) consist of six males and two females, were arrested at the Bobajiroro Hotel.

“During cross-examinatio­n of the suspects, one of the trailed suspects who was 25 years old, declared that the number used in tracking him belongs to his friend.

“Further interrogat­ion revealed that those numbers were stored on his phone with different codes such as 52, 42, 33, while the suspect later assisted the corps in apprehendi­ng the remaining seven suspects,” Mr. Akinsanya said.

Items recovered from the suspects included two red Boxer Motorcycle­s marked BDJ 580 UL and EGB 628 UF, six cell phones and N32,510 cash. The commandant said the suspects would be handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the police in the state for further investigat­ion and prosecutio­n. (NAN)
