Bed Etiquette tips

-

Whether you sleep solo or with a partner, learning to be a more empathetic co-sleeper can’t be a bad thing. Here are 10 ways to bone up on your bedside manners.

There’s nothing worse than waking up shivering in the middle of the night because your partner yanked away all the covers, especially if they’re supercozy covers. Try this hack: Tuck in the sheets around the sides of the mattress, so it requires more strength to pull them from the opposite side.

Keep Conversation Light

Bedtime may not be the best hour for heart-to-heart conversations that’ll pull you out of wind-down mode. Same goes for minor gripes, like who left the cap off the shampoo. Save those talks for the morning.

No one wants to roll over onto a pile of crushed tortilla chips. Because even when you’re really careful, you still leave crumbs.

Settle On A Consistent Room Temperature

Experts recommend a cool bedroom temperature of between 60-67 degrees for optimal sleep, but there’s a wide variety of personal preferences. Be mindful of your mate’s likes and dislikes before opening the window or cranking up the heat. (Etiquette is less about following a set of rules and more about respecting other people’s feelings.)

Seriously consider banishing all screens from the bedroom. Exposure to blue light before bed can decrease melatonin, a hormone critical for sleep, and disrupt circadian rhythms, research shows.

If you need more room to stretch out, consider upgrading to a bigger bed. If you share a bed with someone, you also have to consider that they need space to lay down in. Avoid sprawling or taking too much of the bed as a courtesy. If you can’t do that, you can also opt to get a bigger bed or separate beds.

Set Rules On Pets And Kids In The Bed

Are you Okay with the cat snuggling with you in the middle of the night? Are you a co-sleeping family? This is an area of long-term potential conflict, so it’s best to set boundaries early on.

Performing this seemingly mundane task daily can build a foundation for other good habits, like keeping your bedroom (and kitchen…and car) neat and tidy.

Work Elsewhere

Experts agree that you get better, more peaceful sleep if you reserve the bedroom for sleeping and sex only. Freshest

Be The Smelling You

It may go without saying, but in long-term relationships, it’s good to have a reminder about the basics: You don’t have to wait until the morning to take a shower. And remember to brush your teeth before bed. Your mom would be proud, your mate will be grateful.

Don’t toss and turn in bed

If you’re the type who constantly needs to find the right position to fall asleep, tossing and turning could be your usual bedtime activity. This can also be the very reason why your bed partner can’t fall asleep as they can feel your every movement through waves on your bed. What you can do is to just get out of bed first if you still can’t fall asleep and do something else. Go back when you are sleepy and ready to catch some zzz’s. www.dreamcloudsleep.
