Two brothers have reportedly died while quarrelling over a parcel of land in Tse-Agbulu, Kunav, Sengev council ward of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Daily Trust on Sunday gathered that the incident which happened a fortnight ago has left the rural community wondering the strange circumstances surrounding the siblings’ demise.
Witnesses gave the names of the deceased as Iorhemba Adóón and Jima Adóón.
Trouble was said to have started between the siblings when Jima hired a tractor to plough his rice farm near River Benue but was confronted by his brother, Iorhemba, who dispersed the workers on the ground that the land was their father’s and as the eldest, his inheritance.
The brothers were said to have as a result of the disagreement engaged in a fight, allegedly accompanied by charms as they made incantations in the full glare of the villagers.
It was learnt that during the process of the physical warfare, the elder brother slumped and in a matter of seconds, the younger one also slumped.
Our correspondent gathered that the spectators thereafter rushed both men to a hospital in their Agagbe home town, where they were pronounced dead.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benue command, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, adding that the corpses have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.
Anene added that witnesses told the police that they were quarrelling when they suddenly slumped and died.
