Replicate military successes in diplomacy, Buni charges Buratai

The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has said more of his colleagues from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would soon defect to the ruling All Progressiv­es Congress (APC).

He said this yesterday during a stakeholde­rs’ meeting of the party in the state, which was aimed at streamlini­ng actions for the peaceful conduct of the party’s forthcomin­g congresses in the state.

Gov Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe has charged Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai (retd), Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, to replicate the successes he recorded as a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in diplomacy.

Mala-Buni, who is also the chairman of the All Progressiv­es Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordin­ary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), gave the charge when Buratai paid him a courtesy visit yesterday in Damaturu.

He said the newly appointed ambassador was a worthy representa­tive of Nigeria in Benin, noting

The governor blamed the challenges facing the state, especially insecurity, on the stakeholde­rs’ lack of close relationsh­ip with their various communitie­s, as well as selfishnes­s.

“We are making progress, working very hard to see how we can get favours from the central government. The APC will never go down in Ebonyi State. We are still going to get several governors that will join the party in the months ahead,” he said. that he would bring to bear his wealth of experience in dischargin­g his duties.

“l have great confidence in your ability to build a viable and strong relationsh­ip between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

“Your meritoriou­s service in the army has built a great confidence around you, which earned you this appointmen­t as an ambassador by President Muhammadu Buhari,” Buni said.

In a remark, Buratai thanked the governor for the support and encouragem­ent when he served as the army chief. (NAN)
