Bad skin habits to break from

- Compiled by Rosemary Etim Bassey

It takes a lot of products, guidance, regimens, and more advise to achieve clear skin. Along the process, we eliminate the ineffective products, discover the essentials, and give up certain poor behaviors that prevent us from accomplishing our skincare goals. Here are some unhealthy skin habits to steer clear of henceforth:

Avoid touching your face with unclean hands: Whatever is on your hands gets onto your skin when you touch your face. You should be sure to regularly wash your hands and limit the amount of time they come in contact with your face because your hardworking hands come into contact with a lot of dirt, grime, and other undesirable things. The same guidelines apply while using a cell phone in close proximity to your face. Ensure that you clean it frequently.

Avoid picking at acne or other skin irregularities:

It’s likely that you’ve heard that popping your pimples will give you clearer skin faster, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. When you pick at pimples, you either force the ooey substance deeper into the infected pore or you let it to spread to neighboring pores, which results in the development of additional pimples. Visit a dermatologist or esthetician who has been trained to remove problem pimples safely if you need to get rid of one.

When going to bed, remove your makeup:

Acne can develop over time as a result of pores becoming significantly clogged with makeup. Even worse, sleeping with makeup on prevents your skin from healing properly. All during the day, your skin is subjected to a lot of oxidative stress, and the ensuing free radicals can harm your skin if they are not neutralized. So, remove your makeup and put on antioxidant-rich products to maintain the health and happiness of your skin cells.

Avoid using harsh substances when exfoliating:

Your face needs a more delicate approach than the calluses and rough areas on your feet, which call for harsh treatments like pumice stones or scrubs. Products with irritating substances like sugar, salt, or powdered apricot pits should be avoided because they can tear capillaries, irritate the skin, and produce enlarged pores. Instead, think about utilizing an alpha hydroxyl acid-based toner.

Avoid Rubbing Your Eyes: You can’t help but wipe your eyes when you’re tired. However, the skin around and behind your eyes is extremely delicate. Additionally, it doesn’t make oil. So when you rub, you strain the skin, which might lead to the development of fine lines.

Don’t overdo the sugar in your diet: The collagen in the skin becomes bonded to sugar, making it rigid and hard. Skin that lacks elasticity is unable to spring back into shape, which causes wrinkles and fine lines. Additionally, sugar causes inflammation in our bodies, which can lead to rosacea, acne, rashes, and enlarged pores.

Keep in mind to clean your makeup brushes: Powder makeup, in particular, can easily build up in your brush. Bacteria can grow if you leave it unattended for too long. Make it a routine to wash your brush with warm water and a small amount of mild, nontoxic shampoo. You’ll be astounded at how much makeup you can rinse off and how long a brush can endure.

Don’t stay away from oils: People frequently believe that oil-based cosmetic products may irritate delicate skin, block pores, or make skin oilier. We dispel the fallacy about oils and urge everyone to include replenishing oils like tamanu, coconut, argan, and jojoba in their skin care routine.
