Corps members constitute 63% of teachers in Anambra – Coordinator

- From Titus Eleweke, Awka

The Anambra State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Blessed Ekene Iruma, has said 63 per cent of teachers in the state are corps members.

Iruma made this known on Saturday during the 2022 Corps Employers Workshop held at Prof Kenneth Dike Digital Library, Awka, the state capital.

She, however, called on employers in the state to prioritise the welfare of corps members in their workplaces by giving attention to their safety and comfort at all times.

According to her, the workshop titled, “Achieving Improved Productivity of Corps Members through Enhanced Welfare and Security During the Service Year,” was critical.

She said the workshop would help to arrive at vital decisions that would improve the existing good partnership between the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and Anambra people and employers of the corps members.

“Employers of corps members are critical stakeholders of the NYSC. The scheme has high confidence in you as employers. It is not in doubt that corps members in your employment have done and are still doing their best to contribute to the growth and success of your organisations and the country in general. It may interest you to put the records straight, that corps members constitute 62.5 per cent of teaching staff in schools in Anambra State.

“This is my first workshop for corps members since I assumed duty in Anambra few months ago, hence the desire to put heads together on the need for proper care for them to stimulate proactiveness, responsibility, dedication and feedback,” she said.
