- From Hassan Ibrahim, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 12-year-old Dayyabu Abdullahi for the kidnap of a 3-year-old girl at Magama Gumau, Toro LGA of the state

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Bauchi said, “On Wednesday, 46-year-old Yahaya Sale of Magama Gumau, while at his shop, received a threatening phone call from an anonymous person, demanding the sum of N150, 000 as ransom for the release of his kidnapped three-year-old daughter.”

Wakil explained that a discreet investigation revealed that the suspect lured the victim to an isolated place near a football field at the Kara Area of Magama Gumau, called the victim’s father on phone and made the aforementioned demand.

“On hearing this, the victim’s father hung up the call, while the suspect kept calling but received no response from the victim’s father.

“After a while, the victim’s father called the suspect on phone and identified the suspect as Dayyabu through his voice, as the suspect is known by the victim’s father.

“The suspect then kept mute and quickly hung up the call when he realised that the victim’s father had uncovered his identity,” Wakil said

The PPRO said he swiftly took the girl back to their house and told her family that he spotted her crying near a football field.

The victim’s family immediately reported the suspect to the police authority for necessary action, he said.

He urged parents and guardians to maintain strict vigilance over the activities of their wards.
