Kano Pillars win NorthWest derby as Insurance shoot down 3SC
Kano Pillars yesterday edged Katsina United in the Northwest Derby with a hardfought 1-0 win in the MatchDay 2 of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the Sani Abacha stadium.
Pillars who lost the first league game came into this game with all intent and purpose to return to winning ways against a major rival.
The home team led through Ibrahim Mustapha’s goal in the 27th minute to open the goal-scoring chart for the Sai Masu Gida to maintain their supremacy over Katsina United.
With this early goal, the visitors attempted to get back into the game but the home team remained resolute to ensure they secured the maximum points.
In Benin, Shooting Stars of Ibadan failed to shine bright as they fell to an impressive Bendel Insurance 2-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Ismail Ghali Falke’s own goal gave the hosts the lead in the 21st minute while Iyebi Ogbonda Evans made it 2-0 in the 78th minute.
This game is the first league game for the Benin Arsenal to hand their age-long rivals the
first league loss of the season.
At the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Doma United made maximum use of their home advantage to secure a second consecutive win over Bayelsa United.
Majalisa Andrew opened the scoring in the 21st minute for the home side to stun Bayelsa United. At the restart of the second half,
Charles Tewar doubled the lead in the 58th minute to ensure their visitors remained winless against them.
