How to create a spa day at home

- Compiled by Etim Bassey Rosemary

In our fast-paced lives, a spa day at home can be a rejuvenating escape, offering relaxation and selfcare without leaving your doorstep. Whether you’re seeking stress relief or a little pampering, creating your own spa day is a perfect way to unwind and rejuvenate. Here’s how to design the ultimate spa experience in the comfort of your home.

Set the mood: Creating the right ambiance is crucial for a spa day at home. Begin by dimming the lights and lighting scented candles or incense. Soothing music or nature sounds can further enhance the atmosphere. Choose calming and serene scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile to fill the air.

Preparation is key: Start your day by prepping everything you need. Gather towels, robes, and slippers. Ensure you have all your beauty products, such as face masks, exfoliants, and body scrubs, within easy reach. You can even create a spa menu with the treatments you plan to enjoy.

Begin with a bath or shower: A warm bath or shower is a fantastic way to kick off your spa day. Add bath salts or essential oils to the water to create a fragrant and soothing environment. Exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub, and let the warm water relax your muscles.

Facial and skincare: Treat your skin to a refreshing facial. Start by cleansing your face to remove impurities. Then, apply a face mask suitable for your skin type. While your mask is on, lay back and relax. Consider using cucumber slices or cooled tea bags over your eyes for an extra soothing touch.

Body exfoliation: For silky, soft skin, indulge in body exfoliation. You can buy or make your own exfoliating scrub with ingredients like sugar or salt mixed with moisturizing oils. Gently massage the scrub onto your skin, paying extra attention to elbows, knees, and heels.

Relax and meditate: After your bath and skincare routine, take a moment to meditate or practice deep breathing. Find a comfortable and quiet spot, close your eyes, and let go of stress and tension. This practice will help you clear your mind and fully relax.

Massage and moisturise: Pamper yourself with a fullbody massage. You can use a luxurious massage oil or lotion to moisturise your skin while easing muscle tension. Pay attention to areas that hold stress, such as your shoulders, neck, and lower back.

Manicure and pedicure: Give your hands and feet some love. File your nails, soak your hands and feet in warm water, and push back cuticles. Apply a soothing hand and foot cream, then finish with your favourite nail polish. This small step can make you feel well-groomed and puttogether.

Hydrate and nourish: During your spa day, remember to hydrate yourself. Sip on infused water, herbal tea, or a glass of your favourite drink. Complement your beverages with fresh fruits or light snacks for a nourishing experience.

Unplug and disconnect:

A true spa day is about disconnecting from the digital world. Turn off your phone and avoid distractions like emails or social media. Dedicate this time to self-care and unwinding.

Reflect and journal: Before concluding your spa day, take a moment to reflect. Journal your thoughts, feelings, or any insights you’ve gained during your day of self-care. This practice can help you set intentions and maintain a sense of gratitude.

Plan a restful evening:

After your spa day, extend the relaxation by planning a restful evening. Prepare a light, healthy meal or opt for takeout to avoid cooking.

Continue to unwind and enjoy the tranquillity you’ve created throughout the day.
