Police, NSCDC battle in Ogun SWAN security cup finals

The football team of the Nigeria Police Force, popularly referred to as Police Machine and their counterpar­t from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) will today trade tackles in the finals of Value Jet SWAN Security and safety cup competitio­n in Ogun State.

The finals will take place at the

MKO Abiola Internatio­nal Stadium, Abeokuta.

The Police Machine who are playing in their third consecutiv­e finals of the competitio­n lost by a lone goal to NSCDC in the final of the maiden edition of the competitio­n, courtesy Ayorinde Fisayo’s strike in about ten minutes to the end of the game.

The team were also humbled by Nigeria Customs Service by four goals to one in the final of the 2022 edition of the competitio­n.

To get to the final, the NSCDC football team defeated the defending Champion, the Nigeria Customs Service by 5 goals to four on penalties in a tension-soaked encounter after the match had ended one goal apiece during the regulation time.

Police Machine thrashed Nigerian Correction­al Service by four goals to nothing in the second semi final games played.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the NSCDC Director of Sports, Assistant Commandant Fadipo Sunday described the Civil Defence Corps as a household of sports.

He noted that the team’s qualificat­ion for the final of the competitio­n justified the investment and love the commandant had for sports.

On his part, DSP Bankole Lawal Pele said the police machine are in the final of the competitio­n to win.

He commended the spirit of the players and the technical crew for their maturity displayed during the competitio­n.

The Nigeria Customs Service will battle Nigeria Correction­al Service in the third-place playoff match billed for MKO stadium by 2pm.
