EL-Amin, Kangimi rekindle rivalry in Georgian cup finale

The age long rivalry between Kaduna EL-Amin and city rival, Kangimi Resort team will be rekindled today when both teams meet in the grand finale of the Georgian Cup at the foremost Murtala Square in Kaduna.

It will be noted that rivalry dates back to early 2000 when EL-Amin dethroned the then MIA Hotel team, (now Kangimi Resort) to win their first ever Georgian Cup title, would be preceded by the final of EL-Amin Cup that attracted over 20 ambitious teams this year.

Air 11-9 in a pulsating encounter that thrilled thousands of spectators and dignitarie­s, while the Georgian Kings, EL-Amin took on Abuja Rubicon in their opening game, to set up this clash.

Emir of Katsina Cup and the Imani Cup take centre stage as the internatio­nal polo fiesta that celebrates its 105-year anniversar­y as the biggest polo event in Africa.

Kaduna Polo club President Muhammadu Babangida (Garkuwan Yaman) and the Tournament Manager, Abubakar Atiku (Baradan Maru) both described the opening week of the internatio­nal polo event as the most contested in years.

He further disclosed that a lot of high-profile guests and dignitarie­s including state governors, Members of the National Assembly, first class emirs, captains of industries, diplomats and tourists from across Africa and Europe are expected to grace the finals of the prestigiou­s tournament.

“it’s going to be a new beginning for the club and we are ready to do it better this time around and we are confident of delivering on all fronts to our esteemed sponsors, partners and the teeming polo buffs across the globe,” Kaduna polo boss assured.
