Cultists kill Kwara poly students

Suspected cultists have hacked down two victims said to be students of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in Kwara State.

The victims, Miss Toyin Bamidele of the Faculty of Food Science and Technology and a yet-to-beidentified male were both Higher National Diploma (HND) students of the institution.

It was gathered that the male student who is said to be a leader of a cult group, was macheted to death within the school premises.

Bamidele, said to be the girlfriend of the leader of a rival group, was trailed to her residence around Dampson hostel in town where she was mauled to death while washing her clothes.

Sources in the institution said the incident might not be unconnected with the popular “Sign Out” ceremony that has snowballed into a cult war by rival groups.

Speaking on the incident, the polytechnic management said a full investigation into the incident had commenced.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Head of the Public Relations Department, Mrs. Folake Akinloye, “The incident was received with rude shock and the management condemns this inhumane act in strong terms as it is strange in the Polytechnic community.

“While the circumstances behind the incident remain unknown, investigations are currently ongoing to reveal the identity of the evil occurrence by the appropriate security agencies and, as a matter of urgency, to fish out the culprits”.

The Kwara Police command is yet to appoint a spokesman after the exit of Ajayi Okasanmi.

But a senior police officer who confided in our correspondent said, “We have commenced full investigations on the matter.
