Haaland breaks record for fastest player to 50 Premier League goals

-

Erling Haaland has smashed the record for the quickest time to reach 50 Premier League goals, by scoring in Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool. A goal on 27 minutes to put City ahead in their top-of-thetable clash with their recent title rivals saw Haaland obliterate the record previously held by Andy Cole.

The game which ended 1-1 saw Liverpool snap Man City’s 23-match winning run at the Etihad. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fine strike 10 minutes from time salvaged a point for the visitors.

City pushed for a winner and were inches away when Haaland headed wide in eight minutes of added time, but they were thwarted as Guardiola’s men failed to win at home for the first time since December 31 last year.

Haaland broke the record for goals in a 38-game season in his debut campaign at the Etihad, by netting 36 on their way to the title last season.

The 48 games which it has taken for Haaland to reach 50 goals comfortably beats the record held by Cole, who needed 17 games more to set the record in the 1990s.

Meanwhile, second-half goals from Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon proved

the difference as Newcastle emphatically returned to winning ways in the Premier League against Chelsea at St James’ Park.

The win moves Newcastle to within three points of fourthplaced Tottenham, while Chelsea’s fifth league defeat of the season leaves them just inside the top half.

Elsewhere, Jacob Brown scored a dramatic late winner as Luton Town beat Crystal Palace to earn their first victory at home in the Premier League the season. Luton are now four points clear of

the relegation zone while Crystal Palace sit in 15th place.

Tomas Soucek scored a stoppage-time winner as West Ham completed a dramatic late turnaround to beat Premier League strugglers Burnley.

Jay Rodriguez’s penalty had given the Clarets the scent of a rare win but the match was turned on its head in a five-minute spell late on.

Dara O’Shea’s 86th-minute own goal put David Moyes’ West Ham on level terms before Soucek volleyed home in the first minute of added time to clinch the win while Justin Kluivert became only the third player to score in Europe’s top five leagues as Bournemouth moved seven points clear of the relegation places with a dominant 3-1 win at Sheffield United.

Substitute Joao Pedro scored twice as 10-man Brighton condemned Nottingham Forest to a first home defeat of the season in a fiery five-goal thriller at the City Ground. With this win, Brighton secured a third away win of the season.
