North is bleeding from bombs, bandits, hunger – Sheik Yabo
Northern lawyers to sue FG over compensation
Arenowned Sokotobased Islamic scholar has said the northern region is bleeding from bombing unarmed civilians, banditry attacks and hunger. Sheik Yabo, who was reacting to the bombing of villagers during Maulud celebration at Tudun Biri village, Kaduna State, in a video clip posted on the social media, said he was baffled that ‘bombing errors’ happened only in the northern region without a single one occurring in the South.
He said, “It was not the first time the bombs were dropped on innocent people by security agencies and they would claim it was a mistake. They once targeted displaced persons in Borno, same in Yobe. They also dropped a bomb in Nasarawa, and now, it happened in Kaduna.
“Till date, the military has not made any bombing error in southern or eastern parts of this country. It always happens in the North because of our lack of unity.
“North is bleeding, bandits kill us, hunger kills us, and the military that are supposed to protect us are also killing us. This is too much for us. Who do we report to if not Allah, and we are telling him to have mercy on us and protect us,” he said.
The Islamic cleric also claimed that the killings were happening because northern leaders were not united due to interests.
He further described the continuous detention of a Kadunabased publisher, Tukur Mamu by the Nigerian government as complete injustice.
The scholar said Mamu’s offence was simply negotiating between the terrorists and families of abducted Kaduna-Abuja train passengers last year.
Meanwhile, the Concerned Northern Forum said it would institute a legal action against the federal government, demanding the payment of adequate compensation for the victims of Tudun Biri military airstrike in Kaduna State.
Over 120 villagers were killed while celebrating Maudlud last Sunday night.
Nafi’u Abubakar, a lawyer, who spoke on behalf of other lawyers at a press conference in Kaduna yesterday, said the forum would ensure that the families who suffered irreparable loss get justice.
He called on the federal government to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a thorough and independent investigation into this incident.
“It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions and measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future,” he said.
The forum, with over 600 members, extended their deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the tragic incident.
