Nasarawa Poly suspends 7 students for displaying ‘immoral pictures’ on social media

Isah Mustapha Agwai Polytechni­c (IMAP), has suspended seven students of the institutio­n for allegedly displaying immoral pictures on social media during their graduation celebratio­n in the institutio­n.

The Public Relation Officer of the institutio­n, Mr Ali Hassan Mohammed said in a statement that the affected students who had already been communicat­ed to are to resume in 2023/2024 academic session with letters of undertakin­g to be of good behaviour from their guardians or parents to serve as deterrent to others.

“It would be recalled that recently seven female Students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechni­c, Lafia, were alleged to have celebrated their graduation by displaying immoral pictures on social media portraying the Institutio­n in bad light in the name of after graduation sign out,” the statement reads.

It further reads: “The Academic Board of the institutio­n has approved the rusticatio­n of the said seven students for one academic session at its meeting of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, held at the Institutio­n for their involvemen­t in display of indecency and tarnishing the good reputation of the Institutio­n.The rusticatio­n for one academic session was contained in a circular issued on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 signed by the Polytechni­c Registrar, Mr Zamani Habu

Ibrahim.”

Those affected were Precious Sunday, Dorathy Iortyer, Sonia Terna, Maureen Nenmo, Maureen Shitile, Atov Hope Yandoo and Joyce Aonrnenge Lembar.

Reacting to the ugly developmen­t, the Rector of the Polytechni­c Dr Justina Anjiode Kotso, warned all the students to shun any form of social vices and anything capable of putting them into trouble, saying, the management would not compromise standards and academic excellence in the Polytechni­c.

She, however, urged them to be dedicated to their studies and be discipline­d as the Institutio­n has no breathing space for indecency and other heinous crimes.
